Full Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive Lima Arrive in Lima where you will be met at the airport by our team and taken to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax and recover from your journey.

Day 2 - Lima - Cusco - Sacred Valley An early morning flight to Cusco, the ancient capital of the Incas. Upon arrival in Cusco you will be met at the airport by your guide and driver and will set off down through the Sacred Valley of the Incas with its agreeable climate and fertile planes, a rare combination in the high Andes. On the way you will visit Pisac, a village above which lies a majestic Inca fortress overlooking the valley. You will stop for lunch in a local hacienda and then travel on to visit the magnificent Inca ruins at Ollantaytambo, a major fortress and the last stronghold of the Incas as they fought off the Spanish invaders. From here you will head onto your hotel, with the rest of the day free to relax and acclimatise to the altitude.

Day 3-4 - Sacred Valley The Sacred Valley of the Incas the perfect place for families to mix adventure with history. Below is an example of what can be included during your 3 night stay in this region. There are lots of options, ranging from white water rafting, to hiking, to visiting communities, to mountain biking, or simply relaxing in the spectacular setting. Here are some more details on some of our favourite options:

White Water Rafting As the source of the Amazon River, Peru is a perfect place for rafting. There are many tributaries that cater for all levels of rafting abilities from the experienced enthusiast to the complete novice. Our favourite rafting option in the Sacred Valley will involve you being collected from your hotel and taken to the Urubamba River. The route would be a Class III route, which is a good level for novices, combining rapids with longer softer flowing stretches. Throughout the trip you would be escorted by expert rafting guides, with all the equipment required included;

Macas and Moray A chance to explore more in depth the Sacred Valley and gain more insight into the ancient culture of the Incas together with a private guide. This trip offers the chance to visit salt mines which have been used for salt extraction since Inca times at Macas and the experimental agricultural terraces at Moray where different levels of terraces are carved into a huge bowl. Each supposedly has a different microclimate, depending on how deep and are thought to have been used by the Incas to discover the optimal conditions for their crops.

Mountain Biking The Andes are superb for mountain biking. In the Sacred Valley area there are many different routes that cater for every level of experience, offering majestic scenery that you can enjoy from your saddle. All of our trips will have expert guides who also double up as bike mechanics. For larger groups, or upon request there will also be a support vehicle following.

Alternatively we can organise private tours to visit some of the fascinating communities in the area, that live and farm the land as their ancestors have done for centuries.

Day 5 - Sacred Valley – Machu Picchu This morning you will take the train to Aguas Calientes and then on to Machu Picchu. So well hidden in the jungle covered ramparts of the Cordillera Villcabamba that the Spaniards never knew of it, Machu Picchu affords a glimpse into the Inca world and is one of the most stunning archaeological sites on earth. Throughout the morning you will be accompanied by a top guide to ensure you experience the very best of this spectacular site. After lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge, you then have time to explore on your own once the day crowds have dispersed.

Day 6 - Machu Picchu - Cusco This morning a chance to explore the ruins at your own pace and soak up this amazing setting. If you are feeling adventurous we can organise for you to climb up Huayna Picchu , a steep climb, but you will be rewarded with amazing views looking back over Machu Picchu. In the afternoon you return to Aguas Calientes and take the train to Cusco. Here you will be met at the train station and transferred back to your hotel.

Day 7 - Cusco After breakfast one of our team of guides will pick you up from your hotel and take you on a private tour of the city of Cusco, the ceremonial heart of the Inca Empire. Cusco was inhabited by ‘proto-Incas’ as early as the 12th Century AD and was completely rebuilt in the early 15th Century by Pachacuteq, the Inca warrior-King and stood as the heart of the Incan kingdom. Inca walls remain the foundations of many of the city’s colonial buildings. You will also visit Saqsayhuaman, the monolithic Inca fortress overlooking Cusco, and the temple and amphitheatre at Kenko. Saqsayhuaman has some of the most impressive Inca walls in existence, built of hundreds of perfectly fitted stone blocks that weigh up to 130 tonnes each. The site is often called a fortress but more likely it was a sanctuary and temple to the sun. In the afternoon some time to relax and explore Cusco on foot – a really beautiful city that is perfect for walking.

Day 8 - Cusco – Lima A relaxing morning then you take your flight back to Lima, where you will be met at the airport and taken to your hotel. The afternoon free to relax.

Day 9 - Lima – Paracas An early start this morning, you will be picked up from the hotel and will set off on your drive towards the Peninsula of Paracas and the Ballestas Islands, both important marine sanctuaries in southern Peru. This coastal location where the cold waters of the Humboldt Current converge with the more tropical currents make this a perfect climate for many species like sea lions, hammerhead sharks, penguins and many more. Afternoon free to relax.

Day 10 - Ballestas Islands - Huacachina Today after an early breakfast you will take a boat cruise around the bird and sea lion colonies of the Ballestas Islands. You will have the opportunity to see the many different species of animals that live on the island. The boat trips will also give you your first sighting of the Nazca lines, the boat navigates past a dune that has a Candelabra etched into it. In the afternoon, after your visit, you will be driven to your hotel located in a beautiful desert oasis called Huacachina.

Day 11 - Nazca Lines This UNESCO World Heritage Site, where mythical gigantic patterns and shapes such as hummingbirds, spiders and geometric patterns stand. These lines that date back to the Nazca Culture are best seen from the air from a small aircraft that circulates the lines. After your visit you will return to your hotel at Huacachina.

Day 12 - Ica and Sand Dunes Today you may wish to leave free to relax in your hotel in the desert oasis of Huacachina, or we can organise for you to be picked up and taken to the nearby town of Ica home to the
Regional Museum, which boasts Paracas weavings, Nazca ceramics and artefacts from
the ancient coastal civilizations.

Then from here you head off to explore the colossal sand dunes that surround this colonial town – the most adventurous and fun is on a 4x4 sand buggy with local guides that can introduce you to sand boarding! A sand board is comparable to a wide skateboard with no wheels that you can stand or sit on to descend. It is also a great spectator sport that you can enjoy whilst touring the dunes in a 4x4 buggy.

Day 13 - Pick up – return to Lima This morning you will be picked up and taken back to Lima, arriving early afternoon, you have the rest of the day free to relax.

Day 14 - Lima City Tour – Flight home This morning, you will join a top local guide for a visit to the colonial part of Lima – founded by Francisco Pizarro in 1535 and known as the “City of Kings” – Lima has a rich colonial history. From here depending on your flight times you will be taken to the airport for your flight back to the UK.
