Full Itinerary

Day 2 - Lima – Cusco This morning you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to Lima airport where you will catch your flight to Cusco. The rest of the day will be free to relax and get used to the altitude. Overnight at Cusco (B)

Day 3 - Cusco city tour  After breakfast you will be picked up from your hotel and taken on a tour of the city of Cusco, the ceremonial heart of the Inca Empire. Cusco was inhabited by ‘proto-Incas’ as early as the 12th Century AD and was completely rebuilt in the early 15th Century by Pachacuteq, the Inca warrior-King and stood as the heart of the Incan kingdom. Inca walls remain the foundations of many of the city’s colonial buildings. You will also visit Saqsayhuaman, the monolithic Inca fortress overlooking Cusco, and the temple and amphitheatre at Kenko. Saqsayhuaman has some of the most impressive Inca walls in existence, built of hundreds of perfectly fitted stone blocks that weigh up to 130 tonnes each. The site is often called a fortress but more likely it was a sanctuary and temple to the sun. In the afternoon you will have some time to relax and explore Cusco on foot – a really beautiful city that is perfect for walking around. Overnight at Cusco (B)

Day 4 - Rafting Sacred Valley of the Incas An active and fun day out as you raft down the Chuquicahuana section of the Urubamba River which has a rating of class III-IV. Our partners are the most established and respected rafters operating from Cusco and they pride themselves on providing quality and exciting excursions in a safe environment.

You will travel approximately 1.5 hours through the stunning and dramatic Andean mountains before reaching your destination on the banks of the river where your guides will prepare everything and give you a few safety instructions. This is an excellent route that progressively gets a little more challenging the further you get down the river. You will be on the river meandering and bumping through the canyon for approximately 2 hours.

After the rafting you will have a picnic where you can recover and dry! You will then be taken back to your hotel in Cusco (B, L)

Day 5 - Cusco Today you are free to explore this beautiful ancient city at your own pace. There are excellent bustling artisanal markets where you can pick up great locally made souvenirs. Cusco is also a fantastic city to relax and observe local life whilst sipping a traditional coca tea. Overnight in Cusco (B)

Day 6 - Cusco-Chinchero to the Urubamba River cycle An early start as you are picked up from the hotel and taken to the starting point of the trail. This scenic cycle through the Sacred Valley of the Incas begins at Chinchero and winds its way through traditional Peruvian towns and past the indigenous tending their crops as you drop 1000m in altitude over the course of the day. A delicious high in carbohydrate and protein lunch will be provided to fuel your afternoons riding! After lunch you jump back on your cycle and head to the town of Maras and cycle through the salt mines before reaching your destination on the banks of the Urubamba River. An expert guide will be with you all day and there will be a support vehicle with a bike mechanic. Afterwards you will return to Cusco. Evening free to relax. Overnight Cusco (B,L)
